JUSTIN’S BIO
Justin Pemberton is an internationally acclaimed filmmaker known for his ability to tackle ambitious subjects with both critical acclaim and box office success. From diving into the complexities of the nuclear power industry with 'The Nuclear Comeback' to unravelling the mysteries of international espionage in 'I Spy With My 5 Eyes', and even exploring the story of capitalism in 'Capital in the Twenty-First Century', Justin's portfolio is as diverse as it is impressive.
His adaptation of French economist Thomas Piketty’s NY Times bestseller, 'Capital in the Twenty-First Century', was a hit at film festivals and theatres before finding a home on US Netflix. Variety enthusiastically claimed the film "provokes a consistent sense of 'Whoa!’ A financial detective story that exposes our current crisis.”
Justin co-wrote and directed 'Chasing Great', the captivating biopic of rugby legend Richie McCaw, which soared to the top of the New Zealand box office, setting records along the way, and cementing its place as the highest-grossing New Zealand documentary of all time.
His historical docudrama, 'The Golden Hour', earned him an International Emmy nomination for its gripping portrayal of Peter Snell and Murray Halberg's incredible triumph at the 1960 Rome Olympics, blending archival footage, interviews, and dramatizations seamlessly.
Adding to his impressive resume are his producer credits, including the award-winning 'The Nuclear Comeback', two documentaries featuring New Zealand singer-songwriter Anika Moa, and his role as Executive Producer of the international sensation 'Tickled'.
